Learn to drive today with Drive to Success

Automatic Lessons

“Drive to Arrive” can now offer training in a car with automatic transmission as well as one with a manual gearbox. The investment in an automatic vehicle will cater for a wider client base. This may include people who have disabilities or learning difficulties, those who are learning to drive later in life (no clutch to worry about!) and maybe older drivers who are changing to an automatic car because of reduced mobility.

Although people who learn to drive and take a test in an automatic car will be restricted to driving that type of vehicle, there are an increasing number who are making this choice for personal reasons. Ultimately the plan is to have adaptions fitted to the vehicle, to give an opportunity to people with physical disabilities the ability to learn to drive, thereby giving them the benefits of greater mobility and independence.

If you answer “yes” to any of the following questions a vehicle with automatic transmission may be the way forward as it may better meet your needs.

• Are you someone who has tried learning to drive in a manual car but found it too difficult?
• Do you lack confidence in controlling a car through worrying about clutch control?
• Do you have learning difficulties?
• Do you have a disability?
• Are you a person who is learning to drive later in life?
• Are you an older person who has mobility issues?
• Are you someone who has reduced mobility due to an illness?

The above are just some of the reasons why someone may choose to drive an automatic car. Clients have found that it is easier to learn, they may be able to cope better with no clutch and no need to plan gear changes, which gives more time to think about other aspects of the driving task.

The car currently used is a Suzuki Splash 1.2 with a petrol engine and traditional automatic gearbox.

If you are not sure whether or not an automatic car would be right for you please contact us to discuss the possibilities. If you already drive it may be possible to arrange a trial lesson to see if it suits you and find out more about the differences between manual and automatic.
